Mission

People are at the heart of our business. We lead by example in promoting and ensuring we maintain a strong safety culture, where strict adherence to risk mitigation and safety/security protocols of our employees, passengers, clients, and communities is critical.

About the role

RATP Dev USA is seeking an experienced Assistant Maintenance Manager to lead daily bus maintenance for Prince George’s County GoPGC.

This role requires a visible, hands-on leader who can organize shop work, develop technicians and ensure safe, reliable buses are ready for service. You will work closely with the AGM of Maintenance, the General Manager and Operations to improve preventive maintenance, reduce repeat failures and deliver timely repairs.

Profile

Key responsibilities

  • Fleet readiness and service support. Coordinate with Operations and Dispatch before AM and PM pullout. Verify ready-bus status, completed repairs and fueling. Identify projected shortages early and coordinate road-call and replacement-bus support.
  • Shop leadership and staffing. Direct technicians, maintenance supervisors and utility employees. Assign work by priority and skill, provide clear shift handoffs, and monitor completion. Maintain shift coverage, address attendance and performance concerns, and support hiring and training.
  • Preventive maintenance. Manage PM schedules and mileage due dates. Reserve shop capacity for inspections, address overdue work promptly and verify complete, accurate maintenance records.
  • Repair quality and reliability. Review recurring defects and road calls, confirm diagnosis and require documented corrective repairs. Ensure qualified personnel verify repairs before release. Enforce safe vehicle release standards.
  • Out of service recovery. Maintain an accurate bus-level repair log with work orders, assigned owners, parts dependencies and completion dates. Prioritize repairs that restore service and escalate overdue work, including buses out of service over 30 days.
  • Road-call response. Provide response coverage throughout service hours. Track notification, arrival and restoration times. Review mechanical missed trips and lost service with Operations and implement corrective actions.
  • Vendor and warranty management. Hold vendors accountable for repair schedules and parts delivery. Coordinate electric-bus and charger support. Document warranty claims and pursue eligible reimbursement.
  • Safety and compliance. Enforce safe shop practices, equipment use and environmental controls. Maintain compliance with applicable company, client and regulatory requirements. Partner with Safety on training and incident prevention.

Reporting and financial accountability

  • Provide accurate daily maintenance reports covering availability, road calls and open repairs. Communicate service risks promptly and respond to management and client requests on time.
  • Maintain weekly scorecards and monthly KPI reports. Analyze PM compliance, fleet availability, repeat failures, road calls and mechanical missed trips. Assign corrective actions and track them through completion.
  • Manage maintenance spending, overtime, inventory and contracted services. Review invoices and supporting records promptly. Verify coding and identify charges eligible for client reimbursement.
  • Maintain productive labor relations and apply company policies and the collective bargaining agreement consistently. Work with HR on documented coaching and disciplinary matters.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $110,000 annually, based on qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

  • Five years of transit or diesel vehicle maintenance management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of bus systems, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair quality controls.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead shop personnel, prioritize competing repairs and maintain dependable shift coverage.
  • Experience using maintenance work-order systems, fleet records and performance data to manage repairs and improve reliability.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, sound judgment and consistent follow-through. Ability to work independently and meet reporting deadlines.

Preferred experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, business administration or a related field.
  • Management experience in a unionized transit operation.
  • Experience supporting battery electric buses, charging infrastructure, vendor repairs and warranty recovery.
  • Experience improving PM compliance, reducing repeat breakdowns and recovering an extended repair backlog.
