Mission
Our mechanics play a crucial role in the safe operation of our transit system, ensuring the safety of passengers who rely on transit for their daily commutes. As a Technician III at RATP Dev USA, you will help keep Asheville's transit fleet safe, reliable, and ready for service. Working as part of the maintenance team, you will perform inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on buses and support vehicles. This position is ideal for someone with mechanical experience who wants to grow their skills and build a long-term career in transit maintenance.

Profile
Responsibilities and Duties
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and safe work practices.
- Perform preventive maintenance inspections and routine service on buses and support vehicles.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, heating, air conditioning, brake, steering, suspension, and other vehicle systems.
- Inspect vehicles and identify maintenance or safety concerns.
- Use diagnostic equipment and maintenance software to troubleshoot issues.
- Complete repairs accurately and efficiently.
- Change oil, filters, fluids, belts, batteries, and other serviceable components.
- Repair and maintain ADA accessibility equipment and other bus components.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, lifts, and jacks safely.
- Complete electronic repair orders and accurately document work performed.
- Perform road tests as needed to verify repairs.
- Respond to road calls and service requests when required.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Work collaboratively with other technicians, supervisors, and operations staff.
- Follow all company policies, maintenance procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated commitment to safety.
- Basic mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to read and understand repair manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
- Basic computer skills and willingness to learn maintenance software programs.
- Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize work assignments.
- Ability to work a variable schedule, including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Must be dependable and available to support operational and maintenance needs during assigned shifts.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical training in diesel, automotive, heavy equipment, or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience in vehicle, diesel, fleet, heavy equipment, or automotive maintenance preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid CDL Class B with passenger and air brake endorsements required, or the ability to obtain one within the timeframe established by company policy.
- New Technician III employees must successfully obtain the ASE H8 Preventive Maintenance Inspection certification within six (6) months of hire.
- Must maintain all required licenses and certifications as a condition of employment.
Additional Requirements
- Must provide personal hand tools required to perform assigned work.
- Must successfully pass all required pre-employment screenings, including drug testing, background checks, and DOT requirements.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, bend, stoop, climb, and work in varying weather and shop conditions.
