We are seeking a detail-oriented, hardworking, and safety-conscious individual to support our onsite operations as a Utility Worker. The role of our Utility Workers is of great responsibility as they are tasked with ensuring that our Vehicle Fleet complies with Federal and State OSHA and CDC standards. Additionally, our Utility Workers ensure that our vehicle fleet always looks its best. You represent our company to the community, and your attention to detail and care for the fleet is vital.

Position: Utility Worker and Cleaner 

Location: Fleet Maintenance/Shop 

Reports To: Director of Maintenance 

Classification: Non-Exempt 

Job Purpose: 

The Utility Worker supports the daily operations of ART by maintaining a clean, safe, and service-ready fleet. This position is responsible for cleaning, sanitizing, inspecting, servicing, and moving vehicles while ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable OSHA, CDC, DOT, and safety standards. The Utility Worker helps ensure that vehicles are presentable, properly equipped, and ready to provide safe and reliable transportation to the community. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Vehicle Cleaning and Servicing: 

• Clean, wash, and sanitize the interior and exterior of transit vehicles according to established schedules and procedures. 

• Perform vehicle detailing as assigned to maintain fleet appearance standards. 

• Check and maintain vehicle fluid levels including engine oil, coolant, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), and windshield washer fluid. 

• Ensure vehicle emergency equipment, including first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and body fluid cleanup kits, is fully stocked and operational. 

• Inspect vehicles for cleanliness, visible damage, and safety concerns, and report findings to the Maintenance Supervisor. 

• Safely move vehicles between designated work, fueling, and storage areas. 

• Assist with fueling vehicles as required. 

Documentation and Facility Support: 

• Record and report end-of-day mileage and other required vehicle information. 

• Maintain accurate records of inspections, cleaning activities, and services performed. 

• Demonstrate proficiencies in light maintenance work (mow, cut, trim) using various tools, chemicals, and equipment 

• Report vehicle defects, damage, and maintenance concerns promptly. 

• Assist with opening and closing procedures, including securing buildings and work areas as assigned. 

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. 

• Follow all company safety policies and procedures. 

General: 

• Complete all assigned duties in a professional, accurate, and timely manner. 

• Work cooperatively with maintenance, operations, and administrative personnel. 

• Perform other related duties as assigned. 

The performance of the major job functions for this position requires the incumbent to be present at their work setting. Regular, dependable attendance is necessary for the performance of job duties. 

Qualifications: 

• High school diploma or GED preferred. 

• Minimum of two (2) years of related work experience or equivalent experience. 

• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. 

• General knowledge of vehicle fuels, lubricants, cleaning products, and safe handling procedures. 

• Ability to accurately complete forms, records, and reports. 

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety. 

• Must successfully pass applicable pre-employment screenings, including background checks, drug and alcohol testing, and DOT requirements as applicable. 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: 

• Use of full ranges of hearing, speech, and vision. 

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, stooping, and climbing. 

• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds. 

• Ability to work around cleaning chemicals, fuels, lubricants, and vehicle maintenance products. 

• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions. 

• Ability to climb into and out of transit vehicles repeatedly throughout the workday. 

• Ability to safely operate vehicles within company property. 

• Must be able to move about the facility, access equipment and storage areas, and communicate effectively in person and by telephone. 

• Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
