Profile

Responsibilities of a Parts Clerk

The Parts Clerk is responsible for supporting the maintenance operation by managing parts, inventory, receiving, storage, shipping, and material-handling activities accurately and efficiently.

  • Coordinate and cooperate closely with co-workers, vendors, supervisory personnel, and parts room customers.

  • Receive, count, store, issue, and maintain parts and inventory.

  • Package, prepare, and transport inventory for shipment.

  • Initiate, sign, review, and maintain various inventory documents to ensure accuracy and improve logistical support.

  • Research, investigate, coordinate, and resolve parts and material discrepancies, taking appropriate action within established guidelines.

  • Safely operate a variety of manual and self-propelled material-handling equipment, including pallet trucks, hand trucks, forklifts, and manual wire baler equipment.

  • Perform simple, routine maintenance of material-handling equipment.

  • Maintain accurate inventory balances and documentation, including material receiving, transferring, sorting, shipping, and handling.

  • Assemble, modify, and rearrange parts room storage equipment, including racks, bins, and small-parts cabinets.

  • Maintain accurate manual and electronic records, files, storage locations, and storage labels.

  • Operate display devices, label makers, computers, and standard office equipment.

  • Perform mathematical computations, fraction conversions, and standard measurement conversions as required.

  • Operate a vehicle safely to ensure timely pickup and delivery of parts as needed while complying with all applicable laws and posted speed limits.

  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe parts storage areas, including floors, shelving, bins, docks, and work areas.

  • Follow established inventory control, warehouse, safety, and office procedures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by Operations to support the overall needs of the site and maintenance operation.

Pay: 21.63 Per hour

Site-Specific Requirements

  • Must meet all Visalia Transit site-specific requirements.

  • Must be able to safely perform the physical and operational duties associated with parts room and warehouse activities.

  • Must comply with all applicable company, site, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Education Requirement

  • High school diploma or GED.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of general work experience, including driving and customer service experience.

  • A minimum of two (2) years of continuous employment in a position involving direct public contact is preferred.

  • Must be at least 19 years of age.

  • Must have been a licensed driver for at least two (2) years.

Additional Information

The Maintenance/Parts Clerk is responsible for performing warehousing, parts room, and inventory-related duties with a high degree of proficiency and accuracy. Responsibilities include receiving, storing, handling, packaging, shipping, delivering, documenting, and counting inventory, as well as controlling parts, materials, and equipment.

The Parts Clerk is responsible for maintaining orderly and safe parts storage areas, including cleaning floors, shelving, bins, docks, and work areas. The position also participates in the care and light servicing of inventory-handling equipment and may assemble, modify, organize, and label storage racks, bins, cabinets, and related equipment.

The Parts Clerk is expected to maintain accurate manual and electronic records, follow established office and inventory procedures, and provide timely support to maintenance personnel and other parts room customers. The position requires attention to detail, organization, accuracy, safe work practices, and the ability to exercise independent judgment within established guidelines.

The Parts Clerk may also be required to perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by Operations based on the operational needs of Visalia Transit.
