The Maintenance Supervisor oversees the maintenance and repair of buses and support vehicles to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations. This role emphasizes safety, operational efficiency, and customer service, while providing hands-on leadership to maintenance staff.

Profile

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule and oversee fleet maintenance; troubleshoot equipment issues and ensure timely repairs
  • Supervise, assign, and monitor work of maintenance personnel; provide coaching and performance support
  • Communicate vehicle readiness with dispatch and operations to support reliable service
  • Perform hands-on maintenance and repairs on diesel engines and bus equipment as needed
  • Ensures compliance on a day-to-day basis with State, Federal, and Company requirements.
  • Utilize tracking methods to manage work orders, vehicle history, and inventory
  • Review repair orders and monitor maintenance quality standards
  • Support operational reliability to ensure safe, on-time service for customers and passengers
  • Manage parts, supplies, and fuel ordering as needed
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and control costs
  • Oversee fueling operations and facility/grounds upkeep
  • May respond to emergency maintenance issues and be available on-call

 

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of hands-on mechanical supervisory experience
  • 10 years mechanical experience repairing and maintaining diesel vehicles & equipment
  • ASE certifications applicable to bus maintenance a plus.
    • H4 – Brakes
    • H6 – Electrical/Electronic Systems
    • H8 – Preventive Maintenance & Inspection (PMI)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Technical training preferred
  • Possess CDL Operator’s license with passenger and air brake endorsements
  • May require lifting of 20 to 50 lbs.
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Computer skills
  • Professionalism, initiative, and leadership
  • Be subject to drug testing
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned


Physical Requirements: 

Occasionally = 1%-33%; Frequently = 34%-66%; Continuously = 67%-100% 

  • Sitting: Continuously, up to 2 hours at a time, with a few breaks.
  • Standing/Walking: Frequently, when assisting passengers, walking to and from vehicle, and around vehicle for inspections
  • Driving: Continuously, up to 1-1/2 hours at a time, with few breaks.
  • Lifting/Carrying: Occasionally, up to 25 pounds; must be able to lift 50 pounds if necessary.
  • Bending/Squatting/Kneeling: Frequently, when inspecting vehicle and securing wheelchairs.
  • Pushing/Pulling/Reaching: Frequently, with maximum force of 5 pounds, while steering vehicle, opening/closing vehicle doors. Frequently, up to 350 pounds when maneuvering wheelchair passenger.
  • Twisting: Frequently, at waist and neck when driving and securing wheelchairs.
  • Overhead Reaching: Occasionally, when reaching controls and signs.
  • Climbing: Frequently, getting in or out of vehicle.
  • Handling/Grasping: Frequently, while steering vehicle.
  • Talking: Frequently, communicating with passengers and dispatcher. 
  • Hearing: Continuously, listening for emergency sirens, bus malfunctions, passenger communications, and radio communications.
  • Fine Finger Manipulation: Occasionally, when handling change and operating radio vehicle controls.
