The Safety Supervisor / Training Specialist plays a critical role in protecting passengers, employees, and the community by promoting a proactive safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and continuously improving operational performance.
Profile
Position Summary
The Safety Supervisor / Training Specialist is responsible for promoting a culture of safety, compliance, and operational excellence across transit operations. This role leads investigations, monitors regulatory compliance, conducts training and field assessments, and drives continuous improvement in safety performance.
Minimum Qualifications
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with Passenger Endorsement
- Minimum 3 years of CDL driving experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a safety, training, supervisory, or instructor role
- Clean driving record with no serious preventable accidents or major moving violations within the past 3 years
- Current Transit Safety Institute (TSI) certifications applicable to transit operations, or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of CDL passenger transportation experience
- 3–5 years of experience as a Safety Supervisor, Trainer, Instructor, Road Supervisor, or Operations Supervisor
- Multiple TSI certifications (Instructor, Supervisor, Transit Safety, etc.)
- Experience with accident investigations, safety audits, coaching, corrective actions, and regulatory compliance oversight
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct investigations of accidents, incidents, passenger complaints, operator conduct, and vehicle damage
- Review onboard camera systems, Lytx events, telematics, and safety data to identify risks and trends
- Ensure compliance with all applicable DOT, FTA, ADA, FMCSA, and company regulations
- Administer and oversee the Drug and Alcohol Testing Program in accordance with federal guidelines
- Perform field observations, ride checks, facility inspections, and operational safety audits
- Develop and implement corrective action plans to reduce incidents and improve safety performance
- Maintain accurate records, including investigations, audits, and compliance documentation
- Prepare detailed reports with findings and recommendations for leadership
- Monitor operator qualifications, licenses, medical certifications, and credentials
- Lead safety initiatives and promote accountability and continuous improvement
- Participate in accident review committees and determine preventability outcomes
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies, insurance representatives, and law enforcement as needed
- Analyze safety trends and provide actionable recommendations to leadership
- Serve as a subject matter expert and resource on safety policies and procedures
