Mission
The Dispatch Manager oversees the daily coordination and management of public transit operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable transit service. This role supervises dispatch personnel, monitors vehicle movements, responds to service disruptions, and coordinated communication between operators, maintenance teams, emergency responders, and transit leadership.
Profile
Job Responsibilities:
- Supervise and instruct operators; assists with radio dispatch and bus assignments as needed; answers the telephone and relays information and messages to drivers and customer service.
- Updates the computerized driver check-in and operator changes on the expectation sheets and in dispatch software daily.
- Analyzes operational data and prepare performance reports.
- Enters and updates the attendance file for all operators and dispatchers.
- Tracks operator attendance to ensure the attendance policy is enforces as written.
- Issues disciplinary action as warranted including verbal and written warnings.
- Reconciles daily paperwork, balances pay hours, takes or sends the exception sheets and the electronic timekeeping to Human Resources for payroll purposes.
- Maintains roster of staff vehicles and assures dispatch is assigning vehicles properly to staff.
- Maintains manifest accuracy and collaborates with the Assistant General Manager to assure accurate fare collection and operator tablet functions daily.
- Operates multi-line phones as well as two-way radios and CB radios.
- Reviews manifests for time efficiencies and helps to monitor no run files.
- Assists dispatch with add-ons and cancellations received daily
- Receives passenger complaints and investigates problems; assists in obtaining operator input and comments pertaining to customer service reports.
- Attends grievance, safety, and accident review meetings when required
- Maintains confidentiality of information
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of five (5) years of dispatching experience required.
- Must have a valid SC Class B CDL with Passenger Endorsement
- Must be able to work under time constraints and deadlines
- Must have problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Must have strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of ADA, DOT and FTA laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of transit scheduling software, CAD/AVL systems, GPS tracking and Dispatch software required
- Strong leadership, decision-making, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manager multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is preferred
- Public transportation experience preferred
- Prior dispatch/supervisory experience preferred
