Mission

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

·     Execute GoDurham’s daily Operator scheduling process using the CAD/AVL Software, including all leave types.

·     Manages Time-Off requests for Bus Operators and follows approval guidelines in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

·    Maintain employee attendance records and shift-change records for accuracy.  Ensures that Non-Exempt employees are issued attendance infraction notices as outlined in the CBA.

·     Maintain the scheduling software for the Operations Department and serve as the expert in cross training the CAD/AVL Software for all Operations Supervisors (Dispatch, Terminal, Road).  Ensure that the software suite is utilized to maximize operational efficiency and effectiveness by key frontline personnel.

·  Effectively and efficiently utilize bus operator staffing by applying overtime control measures for budgetary compliance.  (Scheduled time vs Actual time).  Adhere to the CBA as outlined for all schedules.

·   Deploy the daily schedule for the daily service delivery team (Dispatch).  Monitor OTP for Bus Operations to ensure schedule adherence.

·    Ensures the CAD/AVL is updated with correct Operator Sign-in logs and Dispatch Logs.  Review incident management records in the CAD/AVL are closed daily.

·  Monitors route schedule performance as it pertains to On-Time Performance and other Operational KPIs maintained in the CAD/AVL software and informs management of problem routes.

·    Develop and coordinate special schedules such as State Fair, Adverse Weather, Staffing Shortages, and Holidays.

·   Participates in the Bus Operator run-cutting process for operator assignments and rostering as needed. 

·   Review Bus Operator payroll records for accuracy of hours; Assures that the scheduled hours are correctly entered in payroll.  Final review will be sent to the Operations Manager and/or Operations Director for final review and approval.

·  Serves as a liaison in the Adverse Weather in the Emergency Operations Center.  On-Site support for Operations Department when Adverse Weather Events occur.

·  Serve as a liaison to the Operation Supervision Team as a back-up to Dispatch as needed.

Profile

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

 

Knowledge:  Must have thorough understanding of Durham area and of the GoDurham routes, employee roster, safety policies, FTA guidelines, customer service policies, and fare structures.  Understanding of transit operations and related regulations required.  Post-secondary training in supervision, dispatching, safety, training, or related fields is strongly preferred.

 

Experience:  A minimum of four (4) years of direct transit operations experience is a requirement.  Prior experience in a supervisory or leadership position is strongly preferred.  Internal candidate’s personnel and attendance records will be reviewed for compliance with company policies and procedures.

 

Skills:  Must have well-refined organizational skills and attention to detail.  Organization skills and self-directed work ethic are essential for success.  Must be able to adapt to scheduling software in an ever-changing transit environment.  Clearly be able to communicate on multiple levels and have effective listening skills.  Proficiency with transportation CAD/AVL software, Microsoft Office Suite applications i.e., Outlook, Word, and Excel are required.

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment:  Must have the ability to work the hours and days required to complete the essential functions of the position, as scheduled.  Vision, hearing, speech, and manual dexterity are required.  A valid North Carolina CDL driver’s license is required.  Must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret general information concerning organizational needs and operations.  Other normal office-related physical demands may be necessary.

 

Mental Demands:  Must have the ability to listen, reason, think, concentrate, and interact with others.  The ability to exercise self-control and work under stressful conditions is necessary, particularly in employee relations situations.
