Position Summary

Microtransit Operator (Non-CDL) $16.10 / HR 

The Microtransit Operator (Non-CDL) is responsible for safely operating VoTran microtransit vehicles to provide on-demand, customer-focused transportation services within Volusia County. This role delivers reliable, courteous, and ADA-compliant service while using mobile technology and real-time scheduling systems.

Microtransit Operators represent VoTran and RATP Dev USA on the front lines of mobility, connecting people to work, healthcare, education, and community resources with dignity, professionalism, and care.

Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities

Vehicle Operations & Safety

  • Safely operate a non-CDL microtransit vehicle in accordance with all traffic laws, company policies, and safety procedures.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and complete required documentation (DVIR).
  • Immediately report mechanical issues, accidents, incidents, or unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and ensure a safe, welcoming environment for passengers.
  • Provide courteous, respectful, and professional customer service always.
  • Assist passengers with boarding and exiting the vehicle as required, including riders with mobility devices.
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with riders regarding pick-ups, drop-offs, delays, or service changes.
  • Support ADA-compliant service expectations and apply proper ADA language.
  • Use tablets and mobile data terminals to manage trips, manifests, and communication.
  • Follow instructions provided through SPARE and related systems for real-time trip navigation.
  • Accurately record pick-ups, drop-offs, no-shows, and cancellations as required.
  • Maintain communication with Dispatch via radio, tablet messaging, or phone.
  • Adhere to VoTran (VoRide) policies, Operations Manual, safety rules, and training standards.
  • Follow attendance, scheduling, and reporting requirements.
  • Participate in ongoing training, safety meetings, and performance evaluations.
  • Represent VoTran and RATP Dev USA with professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
  • Work collaboratively with Dispatch, Supervisors, and Customer Service teams.
  • Respond to service disruptions or schedule changes calmly and professionally.
  • Basic understanding of customer service principles and safe driving practices.
  • Familiarity or willingness to learn mobile technology and scheduling applications.
  • Understanding of or willingness to learn ADA service requirements preferred.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently.
  • Good time management and attention to detail.
  • Ability to use tablets, radios, and mobile applications.
  • Ability to safely operate a passenger vehicle throughout varied traffic and weather conditions.
  • Ability to assist passengers with mobility devices, including security systems.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure or changing situations.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous professional driving or customer service experience preferred (but not required).
  • Must meet all company background, driving history, and pre-employment requirements.

Licensing & Certifications

  • Valid driver’s license required (non-CDL).
  • Acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Ability to obtain any required certifications or endorsements as required by VoTran and RATP Dev USA

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while driving.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and assist passengers as needed.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver mobility devices as required by ADA service.
  • Ability to work in varied weather conditions.
