Profile

Responsibilities and Specific Duties  

  • Evidence of a "safety first" attitude 
  • One (1) year progressive heavy equipment maintenance preferred 
  • Two (2) years technical degree or equivalent experience preferred 
  • Must have computer skills for the ability to repair sub-components of all types of buses.  
  • Must have the ability to understand and follow schematics. 
  • Intermediate level computer skills (including Microsoft applications)  
  • Customer-focused attitude, with high level of professionalism and discretion  
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, establish trust and credibility, and act with complete integrity  
  • Detail-oriented, resourceful, diligent and able to operate independently with limited supervision (completing assigned work accurately and in a timely manner) 
  • Able to work in a team environment, cohesively to ensure vehicle safety  
  • Strong time management and organizational skills 
  • Sound judgement; Good problem-solving and analytical skills (troubleshoot technical issues, communicate and document solutions to non-technical parties)

  • Additional training from mechanical/technical schools, courses or seminars desirable  
  • Experience with diagnostic computer equipment and software required 
  • Must have the ability to learn the design, maintenance, and adjustments of ADA equipment, air conditioning, brakes, chassis, cooling system, engine, interior/exterior lighting, gauges and controls, safety equipment, fire suppression system and sensitive edges, tires and transmissions 
  • Hands on experience in electrical and mechanical troubleshooting 
  • Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, precision instruments, HVAC recovery equipment, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches and hydraulic presses in addition to computer programs such as Cummins Insite and Allison DOC. 
  • Maintains and creates records and work history within electronic repair orders. 
  • Inspect / diagnose / repair / replace brake systems, fuel and emission systems, drivelines, steering and suspension systems, passenger heating/cooling systems, etc. to ensure that they are in proper operating condition. 
  • Use of in-ground and above-ground hoists as well as portable hoists and hydraulic jacks to raise equipment for inspection and repair. 
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance inspections and procedures such as changing oil and filters, lubricating steering, suspension and brake components, battery maintenance, compressed natural gas tank inspections, etc. 
  • Test drive/operate light duty vehicles, trucks, buses and support equipment to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly. 
  • Inspect, adjust, repair and replace protective guards, loose components, and specified safety devices. 
  • Vehicle chassis alignments. 
  • Replace, repair, and perform routine maintenance on internal combustion engines to include gasoline, diesel, and alternative fuel in addition to transmissions and differential units. 
  • Repair and adjust seats, doors, and windows, interior and exterior trim and hardware. Install, diagnose and repair/replace vehicle accessories. 
  • Emission related diagnosis and repairs. 
  • Minor fabrication, welding, grinding, soldering, etc. 
  • Performs service calls on vehicles and equipment. 
  • Assists in training of lower-level personnel 
  • Performs backfill supervisory duties as required 
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Education Requirement  

    Education       
  • High school diploma or GED  
  • Minimum of one-two years of vocational/technical schooling or equivalent work experience.  
  • Experience: Available classifications (shown below) based upon collective bargaining agreements.  
  • Mechanic A: Must be able to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair the most difficult of all vehicles and equipment in service. Should the Mechanic A be selected as an instructor, he or she must be able to teach Mechanic B & C's, as time permits, more complex repair techniques. The Mechanic A must demonstrate superior mechanical skills and mentoring capabilities. The Mechanic A must possess a CDL license with air brakes and a passenger endorsement. Additionally, a Mechanic A must possess 609 and 608 air conditioning certifications and at least five H or T series ASE Certifications, of which two must consist of T6,T7,H6, or H7.
  • Mechanic B: Must be able to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair all vehicles and equipment in service with minimal supervision. Should the mechanic be selected as an instructor, he or she must be able to teach Mechanic Cs as time permits some repair techniques that are not routine in nature. The Mechanic B must demonstrate mechanical proficiency and mentoring capabilities. The Mechanic B must be able to work with minimal supervision. The Mechanic B must possess a CDL license with air brakes and a passenger endorsement. Additionally, a Mechanic B must possess 609 air conditioning certifications and at least three H or T series ASE certifications of which two must include H2,T2,T4 or H4.
  • Computer Skills Basic computer skills with the ability to learn new programs as required.  
  • Certificates & Licenses All positions require a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) class B with endorsements. See experience and qualifications for necessary licenses and certifications.  
  • Other Requirements Must provide own hand tools as necessary to perform the assigned work. 
  • Must pass Department of Transportation (DOT) pre-employment physical and drug screening.  
  • No criminal convictions or DWI, DUI, assault, or possession of controlled substances within the last 5 years. Must be able to complete and pass pre-employment performance evaluation. Department of Transportation (DOT) physical, drug and alcohol screen and background investigation and pre-employment assessments and tests. 

Sign on Bonus Details and Eligibility:

  • Mechanic A ($2500)
  • Mechanic B ($1500)

50% of the sign-on bonus will be paid after 60 days of employment, and the remaining 50% will be paid after 90 days of employment.
