Labor

The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating daily transit operations through the use of public safety radio communication systems, telephones, mapping programs, and various computer applications. This role ensures efficient and timely dispatching of transit vehicles, provides vital operational support, and maintains professional communication with Bus Operators, Road Supervisors, fellow Dispatchers, and the public. The ideal candidate maintains composure under pressure, uses sound judgment, and responds effectively to both routine and emergency situations.

Perfil

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·       Receive and manage incoming calls related to the dispatch and control of vehicles.

·       Provide accurate and timely communication of schedules, service updates, and operational changes—including incidents, accidents, and emergencies.

·       Monitor vehicle locations and trips using computerized routing and scheduling software.

·       Exercise independent judgment and initiative, especially when responding to emergency or unexpected situations.

·       Assist with general office operations and administrative tasks as needed.

·       Perform the duties of a Bus Operator when required.

·       Answer after‑hours customer service calls, providing accurate information and support.

·       Following initial training, work an assigned shift to receive calls and dispatch vehicles according to established procedures.

·       Maintain clear, professional, and respectful communication with Operators, Supervisors, and other staff.

·       Perform additional duties as assigned to support transit operations.

 

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Experience in clerical, communication, or dispatch-related work.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; or any combination of education and experience providing the required knowledge and skills.
  • Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement, or the ability to obtain it within three (3) months of employment.
  • Minimum of two (2) years driving experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the local geographic area, including major streets, landmarks, and public facilities.
  • Familiarity with radio communication systems and related equipment.
  • Basic computer proficiency with the ability to learn transit routing and scheduling software.

 Pay:20.46 per hour 


Work Environment

This position requires working in an office setting with frequent communication via radio, phone, and computer. Shifts may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays to support 24/7 transit operations.
