Position Summary
The Mechanic is responsible for performing skilled mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic repairs on all YCAT vehicles. This position applies advanced knowledge of internal combustion engines, drivetrains, chassis systems, accessories, and related subsystems. The Mechanic performs preventive and corrective maintenance, uses diagnostic tools to identify issues, and ensures all work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with established maintenance standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
Vehicle Mechanical Systems
- Apply knowledge of operating principles of internal combustion engines, vehicle accessories, powertrains, chassis components, and sub‑systems to service all YCAT vehicles.
- Service, lubricate, remove, and replace components related to fuel, cooling, exhaust, engine performance, drivetrain, hydraulic, and suspension systems.
- Adjust operating mechanisms including valve tappets, governors, ignition systems, linkages, clutches, and brakes.
- Remove, repair, and replace components including brakes, air valves, oil coolers, radiators, blowers, alternators, injectors, pumps, fuel pumps, oil sending units/transducers, motor mounts, hoses, fuel lines, differentials, drive shafts, pneumatic doors, and seating components.
- Service and repair suspension systems, transmissions, and hydraulic systems.
Diagnostics & Troubleshooting
- Interpret and work from complex electrical and hydraulic schematics.
- Employ diagnostic, test, and measurement equipment during troubleshooting procedures.
- Perform corrective maintenance on all mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems and components.
Maintenance Documentation & Safety
- Complete all required maintenance records, forms, reports, and documentation accurately and on time.
- Follow preventive maintenance procedures, maintenance program standards, and all shop safety policies.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas.
Other Duties
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Lead Technician and/or Maintenance Supervisor.

Minimum Requirements
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- General knowledge of fuels, lubricants, vehicle safety procedures, and cleaning materials.
Licensing & Compliance
- Must have held a valid, clean driver’s license for at least seven (7) years.
- Must have or able to obtain an Arizona Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger Endorsement and Airbrakes.
- Must pass a physical exam, drug and alcohol screening, and background evaluation.
- Must have or able to obtain CPR certification
- Must have or able to obtain MACS 609 certification
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs regularly and exert up to 100 lbs occasionally.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, kneel, crawl, bend, twist, and perform repetitive motions.
- Exposure to caustic chemicals, high noise levels, vehicle fumes, petroleum products, and inclement weather.
- Must be capable of physical tasks associated with vehicle operation, inspections, and equipment handling.
Other Requirements
- Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must possess or be willing to purchase a complete complement of tools necessary to perform required tasks.
Work Environment
Daily outdoor and indoor work conditions with exposure to:
- Dirt, dampness, noise, temperature extremes
- Vehicle fumes, chemicals, petroleum products
- Vehicle vibrations, traffic hazards, and varying weather conditions
- Occasional interaction with difficult customers
Hourly Wage: $26.52 per hour
